thread of summer

“Summer is butter on your chin and corn mush between every tooth.”
- Calvin and Hobbes

61 degree days just make my heart happy. Its like a taste of summer. When its just beginning to stay warm consistently. When it feels summer. (even though it looks like fall and should be winter) This is the kind of weather that you just want to sit and read a book in the soft grass, a slight breeze blowing your hair and birds singing in the trees. The kind of day that you want to ride your bike for miles in the woods.

I took a trip on this 61 degree day, to my favorite quiet place. The trail. No cars, not to many people, just birds and leaves rustling.

This trail, is my favorite place in our small town. Its beauty and calmness is overwhelming. I could spend hours on that trail. Just riding my bike.

This particular day, I left my bike at home and brought my camera instead. Let me tell you, you know you're a photographer, if you've only gone five feet in 10 minutes because you've been taking pictures of the sun rays and autumn leaves on the ground.Golden hour was at its peak as I arrived. The sun was streaming so perfectly it was like a magical new land. So perfect that you didn't want the sun to ever set.

January, thank you for that 61 degree day. Thank you for that thread of summer.

Spontaneous adventure

You know those days that you just don't want to end? Today was one of those days.

Usually, monday's are rather slow. Nothing is really going on, you're just coming off of the weekend and trying to get back into the groove of week-day life. This monday, was completely different.

Today was filled with picture taking, lots of walking, birds over head, hot cocoa and cookies.

As melissa, megan and i walked around town getting weird looks and having people stop and ask us what we were taking pictures of, I quickly fell in love with our small town. Its hidden brick roads, old houses and large trees give it such character and charm that I never really noticed before.

The grey skies with the sun peaking out now and then, paired with 45 degrees made it the perfect day for a two hour adventure. We snapped photo after photo, walked down many roads and just got lost in the loveliness of the day.
These are the days I live for. The spontaneous ones.

How was your monday?

p.s. Thoughts on new design look? Thanks megan! (:

Excitement.

As I sit here, quickly typing these words. I am bubbling over with excitement! A very special package came from amazon yesterday.

Yes friends. people. readers. I have received and boughten a Nikon D3000! Finally. I'm so incredibly excited right now. I've been wanting a better camera for a while now, and after testing my sisters camera. I decided that was what I was looking for! I'm so excited to learn how to use it! It often takes me a few weeks to learn how to use a camera properly. I'm sure it will take long with this particular camera because there so many settings and such! But nevertheless, I will enjoy every minute of it!
Snap-shots from today:

Don't I have the silliest sisters? They make some of the strangest faces! Oh little kids. (:

Because life's to short

Something I've been think about  lately is time. I was thinking about how I'm almost done with my junior year of high school. How I'm going to be a senior next year. How it seems like only yesterday I was just 10 years old and didn't really care about anything, didn't know how fast life goes, didn't know what I'd even be doing, or where I'd be in 5, 6, 7 years.

Life is far to short. We've only got one life. One life to live for HIM.

...the powerful play goes on, and you will contribute a verse.  ~Walt Whitman, "O Me! O Life!", Leaves of Grass

Its to short to spend all out time worrying about petty things.

To short to waste out time.

Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be.  ~Grandma Moses

We've got to stop and take in the beauty. Life rushes by and we don't take time to notice the small things.
The wonder things.
The life in things.

To live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else.  ~Emily Dickinson

Have you ever just plopped down in the grass and watched the sun set? Its one of the most breath taking things you could ever do.

Take time to smell the roses. Because life's to short to miss the beauty.
